A few years ago, I was diagnosed with diabetes and started to have some health issues. There are many out there but one of the most popular is called “MyFitnessPal.” When you register for a free account online or on your phone, it asks you about how active you want to be during each day by telling it what types of activities (running, biking, etc.) and at what intensity level so that it can provide calorie recommendations based on your goals. The app also keeps track of foods eaten from restaurants too – just tell them how much carbs they had if they don’t list them! You could even use the app to track a weight loss or gain if you wanted.
I have had some success with this method and even lost over 100 pounds! But I am not perfect, so there were days when I didn’t log in and my blood sugar levels would spike. This is one of the little things that we as diabetes patients need to be mindful of – being consistent. It’s also important for me to keep up on eating healthy foods too (even though it can get expensive), which means cooking at home more often than going out for lunch or dinner because those are usually higher-calorie meals. To help with this task I bought an Instant Pot (a pressure cooker) that makes anything from rice & beans, soup, casseroles, etc . at home so I can save money and stay healthy.
The app is a great tool to help me keep track of my blood sugar fluctuations, but it’s not perfect. If you are diabetic or on the verge of becoming diabetic then this will be a good way for you to understand what your body is going through in terms of controlling insulin levels. It also has some other features that would come in handy such as tracking weight change over time, if desired – something I have had success with! There may even be days when I don’t log in and forget about logging my food intake for example, which means I might have higher than normal blood sugar levels because they were high before.
