The PS4 is one of the most popular gaming consoles in the world, with its upgraded capabilities and a large selection of games to entertain yourself with. It typically runs on Wi-Fi, but did you know that in case you lose access to a Wi-Fi connection, you can actually use your iPhone’s hotspot instead? Here’s how to connect your PS4 to an iPhone hotspot.
Setting Up Your iPhone Hotspot To Connect To A PS4
First, you need to prepare your hotspot using your iPhone. Make sure that you have sufficient data to support your needs, as gaming consoles like the PS4 can consume a sizable amount of data. To set up your hotspot:
- Go to Settings.
- Select Mobile Data.
- Tap Personal Data and toggle it on. Make sure the toggle button is green.
- Create a password for security.
Your hotspot will now be visible as an available network to connect to. By default, it will carry the same name as your phone model. To change this, you can go to your iPhone’s General settings and change it in the About portion.
Before connecting your PS4, you need to sure it doesn’t have restricted access yto your hotspot.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Wireless and Network.
- Tap Tethering and Hotspot.
- Make sure that the “Allowed device only” part is unchecked. If you can’t find your PS4 in the list, add it by tapping Manually Add a Device and following the succeeding directions.
Connect Your PS4 To Your iPhone Hotspot.
You can now freely connect your PS4 to your iPhone’s hotspot. The final steps will involve the settings in your PS4 this time:
- Turn on the PS4 and go to Settings.
- Go to Network.
- Select Set Up Internet Connection.
4. Choose Use Wi-Fi and then click Easy. After this, the device will start scanning for available networks in the area.
5. Select your phone’s hotspot and enter the password to connect your PS4.
You are now connected to your phone’s hotspot and you can carry on in the same way you do when connecting through Wi-Fi. Just remember that the speed may be different and that you will be consuming a lot of your data when playing with your PS4.
Connection could be slow or there is not enough data to support your gaming. Also, try checking if you have removed the restrictions which prevent your PS4 from connecting to your hotspot.
You can link your phone by downloading the PlayStation app in the App Store. Sign in to your account and choose “Connect to PS4” in the app’s main menu.
You normally cannot do this unless you use a mirroring or casting program to do so.
You can actually play your games in your iPhone using the Remote Play function of your PS4. Simply download the app and pair your phone with the PS4. Make sure you are using at a version of at least 6.50 of the console.
You can use your phone’s Bluetooth menu to set up the controller. Make sure the controller has been set into pairing mode.
By connecting your PS4 to your hotspot, you can secure an alternative internet source in case your Wi-Fi is down for certain reasons. While performance will be undeniably better under a stable connection, it is still good to have an alternative on hand when the need arises.
