Using the Net User Command

If you don’t know your administrator password, and you’ve never changed it (there’s no need to change it if you’re the administrator of the machine), you can reset it using the net user command line utility. You need to log in with a user profile that has administrator privileges.

Hold the Windows key on your keyboard and press the letter “R” to open the Run command line prompt.  In the run box, type “net user administrator new-password” (without the quotes) and press enter. Now, try to log in with your new password.

If it works, you can reset the password on your Windows domain-joined machine using the same command prompt. And if you don’t know the domain name, you can get the domain name with the command prompt by typing the command “hostname“.

If you don’t have the login credentials for your Windows domain-joined machine, you can use the above method to reset the machine’s password and then access the machine with the new administrator password.
